After Chadwick Boseman’s passing, the future of Black Panther in “Wakanda Forever” and the rest of the MCU was unknown. But his and his character T’Challa’s legacy is continued and remembered in a film that explores what Wakanda must now do without their protector in the aftermath of his loss and what has previously happened. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” promises to be perhaps Marvel Studios’ most dramatic and emotional offering yet.
Everyone’s favourite Norse superhero is back after a few years since he went off with the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of “Avengers: Endgame”. This time Thor teams up with different heroes to defeat another new threat, one that specifically wants him killed. “Thor: Love and Thunder” is a very funny, slightly over-the-top and action-packed but emotionally charged adventure, which is a new direction for the MCU but continues to expand on the God of Thunder’s journey. “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is the most highly-anticipated film since the final two Avengers outings and it’s obvious why as it combines the multiverse of previous Spider-Man films into a showdown of all showdowns. Bowing out this year’s crazy number of Marvel Studios releases on Disney+ is “Hawkeye”. Another “sideshow superhero” who is finally getting his chance to shine, will Clint Barton and Kate Bishop’s dynamic archery duo hit the target dead centre?
“Eternals”, the third Marvel film out this year and the most pivotal in introducing us to Phase Four of the MCU is now out. How will this film centring around a group of super-powered celestial “saviours” as they battle to save Earth fair compared to the might Avengers? Read my review here.
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is another great Marvel film and one that really aims to and succeeds in boosting Chinese representation in a Hollywood film. These “Ten Rings” of representation talk through the different ways in which it helps to combat the under-representation and negative light in which many Chinese and East Asian characters are portrayed on screen.
After more than a decade in talks and production and a year later than its original release, “Black Widow” has finally been released. A much overdue origin story focusing on Natasha Romanoff, played by the ever-popular Scarlett Johansson, will this be a fitting end for her character’s era in the MCU as she comes face-to-fist with her troubled past?
“Loki” is the next long-awaited Disney+ TV series to be released this year after “WandaVision” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. A fan favourite character despite his tendency to be a both a supervillain and an antihero but always cocky and nearly always self-serving, what will the narcissistic but lovable “God of Mischief” get up to in this TV show centred on himself?
