Tan’s Talks: Lunar New Year

Special Year of the Dragon offer: 1-hour talk for £100!

With only a month to go until Lunar New Year on 10th February 2024, how is your organisation marking this global cultural festival celebrated by an estimated 2 billion people worldwide?

And here are some other questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you have anybody in your organisation who celebrates Lunar New Year?
  • How do you know if anybody does or not and how would you know?
  • Regardless of whether you do or don’t, how do you normally mark diversity and inclusion or cultural dates within your organisation?

If you’re on the lookout for someone to speak at your organisation about Lunar New Year, then look no further!

There are two talks on this topic I can deliver to you and your employees:

Celebrating and embracing the diversity of Lunar New Year

In this talk, I cover:

  • Why is it called Lunar New Year?
  • How Lunar New Year is celebrated differently and similarly around the world
  • The origin(s) of the holiday
  • The zodiac cycles
  • Traditions and cultures
  • How to celebrate Lunar New Year at work
  • How to support and include ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) colleagues during Lunar New Year

This talk is suitable for any organisation and all employees.

Profits vs. People: The business of Lunar New Year

This talk looks at:

  • An overview of Lunar New Year, how it is celebrated and what it means to people
  • Using inclusive language
  • Diversifying your marketing for different audiences
  • Giving back to the ESEA community
  • Supporting and including ESEA colleagues

This talk is more suitable for organisations who sell or market products or services aimed at the ESEA community or who have a sizeable ESEA audience. It’s great for your marketing and sales, as well as senior leader/executive/C-Suite teams.

My previous talks have been at:

  • Direct Line Group for their REACH Network in collaboration with besea.n
  • Culture Shift as an internal Lunch & Learn session
  • The event I organised and co-hosted, “The importance and power of ED&I during Lunar New Year”, attended by more than 70 people. Guests included employees from Meliã Hotels, The University of Manchester, OPPO, City Football Group, and Warner Bros. Discovery.
