I am currently the UK’s FIRST and ONLY ED&I consultant specialising in ESEA topics
The term ESEA stands for East and Southeast Asia(n) and was coined around 2020 to help people within this pan-ethnic Asian community feel a sense of belonging in the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and the rise in Sinophobia and anti-ESEA sentiment (or Yellow Peril).
Prior to this, the ESEA community largely considered itself to be a forgotten and misunderstood group and the issues they face to be undermined or not widely known about. And since 2020, never has it seen the greatest progress to change perceptions and the narrative.
With just 0.27% of the estimated 1 million+ ESEA people living in the UK being in positions of power at work, understanding more about how organisations can uplift them is paramount to increasing these numbers and making them feel they can succeed and are supported.

Talks I can give to your organisation regarding ESEA issues include:
- An introduction to the term ESEA and the community
- Debunking the Model Minority Myth and breaking the Bamboo Ceiling
- Celebrating and embracing the diversity of Lunar New Year
- Profits vs. People: The business of Lunar New Year
- YPAD (Yellow Peril Awareness Day) – exploring British (and Western) East and Southeast Asian history
- Supporting and including ESEA colleagues
- Understanding and celebrating ESEA Heritage Month
- ESEA mental health
Through discussing mine and others’ lived experiences, using groundbreaking and still in development statistics, and providing an engaging, eye-opening and educational talk, employees will be able to:
- Uncover the true diversity within the ESEA community, including differences and similarities in cultures and traditions
- Better understand issues such as racism, discrimination, harassment and prejudice faced by them
- Know how to support and include ESEA colleagues, whether it be for Lunar New Year, Yellow Peril Awareness Day, ESEA Heritage Month, or other dates as well as during rises in racism or when it comes to listening to their voices and concerns
I can also work closely with your ESEA colleagues or staff networks to further tailor the talks or training sessions to suit your organisation’s structure, strategies, and current level of understanding around the topic.
The ESEA community is growing in numbers and our voices are getting louder. To be part of this progress and help make sure Yellow Peril such as we saw during the pandemic isn’t repeated and to empower your ESEA colleagues, get in touch today to find out more about how I can help!
