Film Review: Eternals

“Eternals”, the third Marvel film out this year and the most pivotal in introducing us to Phase Four of the MCU is now out. How will this film centring around a group of super-powered celestial “saviours” as they battle to save Earth fair compared to the might Avengers? Read my review here.

Theatre Review: Death Drop

Despite me not being a viewer or fan of Drag Race, I am a fan of musicals and the theatre so I thought I’d give Death Drop a chance – and it doesn’t disappoint! Read my review of this dragtastic show’s first night at The Lowry on it’s UK tour here…

Film: “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” of Chinese representation

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is another great Marvel film and one that really aims to and succeeds in boosting Chinese representation in a Hollywood film. These “Ten Rings” of representation talk through the different ways in which it helps to combat the under-representation and negative light in which many Chinese and East Asian characters are portrayed on screen.

Film Review: Black Widow

After more than a decade in talks and production and a year later than its original release, “Black Widow” has finally been released. A much overdue origin story focusing on Natasha Romanoff, played by the ever-popular Scarlett Johansson, will this be a fitting end for her character’s era in the MCU as she comes face-to-fist with her troubled past?

Book Review: “Danny Chung Does NOT Do Maths” by Maisie Chan

“Danny Chung Does NOT Do Maths” is the debut novel by ESEA author Maisie Chan. Danny Chung has a lot to deal with, including school bullies, fighting racial stereotypes, annoying family “friends”, and most of all, looking after his Chinese granny. How will he cope? A lovely story about being who you want to be, self discovery, and the importance of intergenerational relationships – even if you don’t speak the same language…

TV Review: Loki

“Loki” is the next long-awaited Disney+ TV series to be released this year after “WandaVision” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. A fan favourite character despite his tendency to be a both a supervillain and an antihero but always cocky and nearly always self-serving, what will the narcissistic but lovable “God of Mischief” get up to in this TV show centred on himself?

Film Review: Cruella

“If she doesn’t scare you, no evil thing will!” Well, this reimagined, younger, punk rock rebel version of Cruella de Vil isn’t scary but she’s definitely a badass. Read here to find out what I thought of the new Cruella film, starring Emma Stone and Emma Thompson.

Film Review: Thunder Force

Comedy queen Melissa McCarthy and versatile, award-winning actress Octavia Spencer team up as unlikely superheroes in the action comedy “Thunder Force”. It might not be a game-changer in the genre and won’t change most people’s minds about McCarthy, but is an enjoyable watch nonetheless.
